Hope Mentoring was set up in 2017 - it's aim is for one person for one hour, for one full academic year to mentor one student. At present we are piloting this in a local junior school. It is a structured session however needs to be very flexible depending on how the child is feeling. Sometimes the child may need to talk for the whole hour. Other times there might need to be discussions on behavioural issues during week. Communication from school staff particularly the main teacher is vital and a full written and verbal report is given at the end of each session. The mentee also builds relationship and trust with the parent/guardian of the pupil throughout the time. Since starting these sessions there has already been significant change in the behaviour of the child.
