Today is the last day that we shall be using Faith & Football as a Project name. After 5 years and reaching many hundreds of children within the community it was agreed something new needed to be birthed. When I first suggested a name change to my trustees there was a mixed reaction - the name does suggest all that we as a charity represents but sometimes something has to die in order for something new to rise. On a person level Faith & Football has been 'my baby' for the past few years - I love football and love sharing Jesus so its a perfect match! When God started to speak to me about the name change it felt the right time to do so with our new charity becoming 'official'. I have also been challenged on what my own identity has been. It's more than football, and it was becoming 'comfortable' delivering footballs sessions each week.
I informed the trustees the change should happen on the 1st April I actually had no idea that it was to be Easter weekend but i believe that it was God's perfect timing and that something new and fresh is going to happen during these football sessions. Our vision & values will stay the same - we are here to serve the community sharing Jesus through playing football, We have introduced a Philosophy:
Its exciting times and we plan to do more than football. I have been reading two interesting books over the past week Mission Drift & Dr. Frankenstein and World Systems. As a follow of Jesus it is easy to get focused on the programmes and 'drift' from the original vision - finance, pressure of numbers and your own pressures. I have taken some time away and would hope that we can continue to serve the young people. Our faith is stretched particularly this year as taking the step of self employment but i believe that i am 'called' to do what i do and share my story with people - so therefore my God will supply all my needs!
On this time of year please take some time to reflect if anything needs to 'die' in your own lives sometimes its good to lay some things down in order for new things to develop.
Exciting times for sure.
